Question 10

What is classical Pilates?

Accepted Answer

It's Joseph Pilates' original system: an order of exercises, transitions and equipment, with Mat and equipment practice to work from the centre. CÊNTRICA teaches with a constructivist method: understanding movement by experiencing it, with adaptations when the body needs them.

Question 13

What are the Pilates principles?

Accepted Answer

VIDA describes six principles: concentration, control, centering, breathing, precision and flow. It adds integration as a perspective that brings them together, not as a replacement for the six.

Question 14

What is the Power House?

Accepted Answer

It is the organization of the center, including the abdominal wall, back, pelvis, glutes, pelvic floor, diaphragm and inner-leg connection. It does not mean contracting everything with maximum effort.

Question 15

What does Scoop mean?

Accepted Answer

Scoop describes bringing the abdominal wall inward and upward without holding the breath. Its sensation changes with the position; it is not about hiding the abdomen for appearance.

Question 16

What is the difference between neutral spine and imprint?

Accepted Answer

Neutral spine preserves its natural curves. Imprint brings the lower back closer to the mat through a slight posterior organization of the pelvis and abdominal work, without forcefully flattening the back. They are options suited to the task and person.

Question 17

What is the midline?

Accepted Answer

It is an imaginary reference dividing the body into two halves. In VIDA, connecting to it means linking the feet and inner-leg muscles to the center; it organizes movement without immobilizing it.

Question 18

What is Two-Way Stretch?

Accepted Answer

It means lengthening in opposite directions from a stable center. Supports and limbs create opposition while the center provides support; it is not about reaching the greatest range at any cost.

Question 19

How is breathing used in Pilates?

Accepted Answer

Breathing organizes the trunk and rhythm. VIDA emphasizes lateral and posterior rib expansion, but does not impose a universal pattern: first maintain continuous, manageable breathing, then coordinate it with each exercise.

Question 20

What is Pre-Pilates and who is it for?

Accepted Answer

These are preparatory practices for noticing breathing, supports and movement before the classical sequence. They can help beginners, people returning after a break and experienced practitioners; they are not an inferior version of the method or a substitute for professional assessment.

Question 21

What are VIDA's seven foundations?

Accepted Answer

The Hundred, Roll Up, Single Leg Circles, Rolling Like a Ball, Single Leg Stretch, Double Leg Stretch and Spine Stretch Forward. VIDA presents them as a teaching foundation for Mat: breathing, center, spine and limbs connect rather than acting as isolated exercises.

Question 22

What is The Hundred for and how does its breathing work?

Accepted Answer

The Hundred organizes breathing, rhythm and support from the center. The book's reference is to inhale for five pumps and exhale for five. Build the count gradually while maintaining organization and breathing; reaching one hundred does not justify enduring pain.

Question 23

When should I progress to a harder option?

Accepted Answer

VIDA suggests progressing when you can breathe, maintain the main alignment, recognize your supports and finish with control. Completing a certain number of repetitions alone does not mean you should advance.

Question 24

Does a modification make an exercise less valuable?

Accepted Answer

No. A modification preserves the goal while changing the load: for example, reducing range or speed, shortening a lever, increasing support or resting. It must not be used to hide a symptom that needs assessment.

Question 25

When should I stop an exercise or seek advice?

Accepted Answer

The book says to stop an exercise for sharp or increasing pain, chest pressure, unusual breathlessness, fainting, significant dizziness or worrying symptoms. Seek urgent care when the symptoms indicate it. Chat cannot assess your case or replace a professional.

Question 26

What does VIDA say about Pilates during pregnancy?

Accepted Answer

Practice requires clinical assessment and individualized recommendations when complications exist. Consult your prenatal professional and tell the instructor your pregnancy week, symptoms, history and restrictions. Chat cannot clear exercises for your pregnancy.

Question 27

How is returning postpartum approached?

Accepted Answer

Returning focuses on healing, rest, breathing and function, not restoring an appearance. Timing depends on birth, complications, symptoms and support; it requires clearance and individual progression, not a universal date from chat.
